  Fun Facts

This is a great place to get on Class II near Seattle year round. It is one of the closest runs to Seattle, and has large pools below each rapid making it an ideal place to get introduced to the basic dynamics of moving current.

   Run Description

Most people put in right at the Powerhouse itself for convienience sake. From there on down there are really only two to four "rapids" to speak of, depending on the water level. At higher flows some of them wash out entirely while at lower flows they each tend to take on a more defined shape. It's about as easy and accessible class II as you'll find anywhere, making it the most common place to take someone who's never been on a river before in a kayak.

If you want to tack on a decent class III rapid, go ahead and hike up above the powerhouse and run "Powertoolz".

Below the powerhouse are a few scattered boulders that are perfect for practicing eddy turns and ferry maneuvers. Immediately below this a nice surf wabe can be found at various water levels.

The next rapid is called "Power Puff". It has a broad feild of small waves that flow between some high cliffs on R. Left and two large boulders on R. Right. This is a great place to teach people how to ferry back and forth across the river, catch eddies and peel out of them, and generally play around with some stronger current in a safe, forgiving setting. It's also a good place to get some verticle squirts if you brought your squirt boat.

Below "PowerPuff" is a small no name shoal that produces some class I riffles, followed by one last tiny rapid that can have a wide broken surf wave stretching across most of the river at the top of it. The tail end of this "rapid" has huge eddies on either side of the river. The R. Right side has a few benches of rock where locals often hang out and fish or whatever. The eddy two eddy lines that form off of these benchs of rock are collectively called the "Salish Seam", named for the strength of the whirlpools there and after the local natives. This is a good little squirt spot.

You can take out here, but if you came to paddle somewhere you may as well continue down another hundred yards. This run is a short one already!
